An alleged drunk driving incident caused the death of a newlywed bride while leaving her husband badly injured after their vehicle got hit by a female driver while they were leaving their wedding reception. The couple, from the US state of South Carolina, Samantha Hutchinson, 34, and Aric Hutchinson, 36, were photographed leaving together around 10 pm on Friday.
Videos and photos show the couple smiling from ear to ear as they grasp hands under a stream of sparklers as they leave the wedding after-party.
However, moments later, tragedy struck as the golf buggy they had left the reception in, alongside two other family members, was plunged over with all of them inside. Chief Andrew Gilreath, Folly Beach’s public safety director, reported that two other passengers had been injured seriously also.
Gilreath said the golf cart-style vehicle, decorated with cans and a ‘just married’ sign, was mangled and on its side. Despite the first responder’s efforts, Miller died at the scene.
Mrs Annette Hutchinson, the mother of the groom, disclosed that the golf cart was flung over 100 yards and rolled several times, resulting in the newly bride passing instantly and leaving her husband in a critical state.
“I was handed Aric’s wedding ring in a plastic bag at the hospital, five hours after Sam placed it on his finger and they read each other their vows,” Mrs Hutchison wrote in a post to launch a GoFundme for her. So far, over $183,000 has been raised for burial and medical costs for the campaign launched last Sunday.
According to court records, Jamie Lee Komoroski, 25, was charged with reckless homicide and DUI causing great bodily harm. Reports indicate that Jamie’s vehicle was travelling around 65 mph in a 25 mph zone.
