Buju Banton and Pharrell Williams in Jamaica Recording New Music

There could be new music on the way as Pharrell Williams and Buju Banton are doing some collaborations.

The years between the late 90s and early 2000s were great times for both dancehall and hip-hop music. In Those times, the timeless tracks that are still playing in the clubs today, were produced.

Steven “Lenky” Marsden, one of Jamaica’s biggest producers has recently said he plans to link up with famed hip hop producer, Pharrell Wlliams.

The producer even posted a few pictures to his Instagram of himself and Pharrell, which he captioned, “Jamaican Music! #reggaecrosstheworld #dancehall #jamaica #music #studiovibes #bujubanton #pharrellwilliams.” His post seems to be hinting that they are talking about a new sound for Buju.

The significance of the connection is huge, as both men have helped to shape the sounds of popular music we now have today. In dancehall, riddims had an infectious energy and vibe that was simply irresistible during the first part of the 2000s.

The Diwali Riddim, which was released in 2003, is still giving life to many dancefloors and is still at the forefront, as it helps to push dancehall music to many parts of the world. The genius of Steven “Lenky” Marsden production can also be credited to other noteworthy riddims, as he produced compilations such as Bionic, Time Travel, Masterpiece and Silicone, and many others.

Pharrell “Happy” Williams and Chad Hugo, the Neptune Duo have been around since the early 90s and they have written and produced tracks for some big names in the industry, such as N.O.R.E, Jay Z, Mystikal, Clipse, Mariah Carey, Britney Spears, Ludacris, Daft Punk, Beyonce and a lot of other mega artistes. It seems as if Jamaica’s star singer Buju Banton, will be added to the list soon.

Even though the exact plans for the Gargamel have not yet been exposed, it seems that it is destined to be great, once Buju’s label Roc Nation, is on board.
