Buju Banton Endorses Former Rapper To Become The Prime Minister Of Belize

From one Grammy award winner to the next, Dancehall veteran Buju Banton flew to Belize to pay a special tribute to the Hon. Dr. Moses “Shyne” Barrow, a rapper-turned-politician who is campaigning to become the country’s next Prime Minister.

The Gargamel who is an active member of the Rastafarian community has been most vocal in speaking against politicians and political issues in Jamaica, therefore, his endorsement of the Hon. Dr. Barrow is quite astounding.

Following his arrival in the country on Monday, April 11, news correspondent, Jules Vasquez from the 7NewsBelize station asked the entertainer about his support of Barrow in the coming elections, a political move that the “Buried Alive” entertainer is now openly supporting.

We got to get off our asses and get active like the brother is doing inside the region, not only in Belize, but everywhere and be the change that we want to see,” responded Buju.

Furthermore, his last visit to the Caribbean island was 19 years ago when he performed at a concert in 2003, which raised the question of his reason for visiting.

It feels tremendously good to be back in Belize, wonderful. But the reason why we are here in Belize this time is much different from the last time we were here in Belize. This time it’s about supporting the next prime minister of Belize, making sure that the masses know that there is a movement that they need to get behind, because it involved all Belizeans for change”.

Barrow who holds several titles attached to his name such as Opposition Leader of the House of Representatives, writer, performer, publisher, and philanthropist, suffered a similar fate to Buju Banton, real name Mark Anthony Myrie.

Both men were imprisoned for several years and deported for crimes committed in the United States (US).

The next general elections in Belize are scheduled for the year 2025.
