Covid-19 Fears Causes Closure of BPO Offices in Portmore

Business Process Outsourcing firm Alorica suspended operations at its Portmore, St Catherine offices after one employee reportedly test positive for COVID-19, the deadly coronavirus which has sent the world into a tizzy.

The staff members were told of the reported infection and immediately suspension of the Portmore operations began on Friday.

The site will go through a deep cleaning and sanitization exercise over the weekend, and the Ministry of Health will inspect the premises on Tuesday.

The company stated that “Out of an abundance of caution, we are closing down the site temporarily  to implement the full de-contamination.”

The company revealed that, the worker who tested positive was not seen at the Portmore site since April 6.

The company reported that “Any employee who was in direct contact with the individual is being informed.”

Alorica has five other regional locations and there was a temporary suspension of operations at the one in Dominican Republic offices last month.

The DR now has over 2,000 confirmed cases of the virus.

Added to its Portmore location in Jamaica, Alorica operates from the 162,000 square-foot facility at the 58 Half-Way-Tree Tech Park. The Current employment figures are unknown, but in 2018 the company said it wanted to increase its Jamaican workforce to 5,000.
