Dacres and Smikle out But Chad Wright Advances to Discus Finals in Tokyo

On Friday, Jamaican Chad Wright, competed in the heat for the men’s discus throw in Tokyo. Chad threw season’s best of 62.93m to progress to the final via the last qualifying spot.

While Fedrick Dacres, who was the world silver medallist two years ago, caused Jamaicans to feel disappointed for the first time in track and field events at the Olympics in Tokyo.

On Thursday Night, in the preliminary round of the men’s discus throw, the 27-year-old was knocked out after managing a best mark of 62.91 metres in Group B.

Dacres did a hand surgery last year and he competed less often than most of the other top throwers this season.

Traves Smikle another Jamaican will compete in his heat of men’s discus throw on Friday, July 30, 2021 at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo.
