Designer ‘Virgil Abloh’ Passes Away at 41

As reported by The New York Times and even shared by Shenseea, the popular barrier-breaking Black designer Virgil Abloh died hours ago on Sunday, November 27th in Chicago. He was battling cardiac angiosarcoma, an aggressive and rare type of cancer for a while now. He died at age 41.

Virgil is most known for his Off-White brand and his luxurious approach to fashion which usually resulted in high prices for his works. He was the artistic director of Louis Vuitton men’s wear as well as the founder of his own company, Mr. Abloh and had fruitful partnerships with brands such as Nike.

Virgil was regarded as a workaholic who was not slowed down by his illness, Over the summer he was promoted to a higher position within LVMH that allowed him to work with the company’s 75 brands worldwide, making him the most powerful Black executive in the most powerful luxury group in the world, Kanye at one point even stated that he was jealous of the position Virgil got at LVMH.

“Virgil was not only a genius designer, a visionary, he was also a man with a beautiful soul and great wisdom,” Bernard Arnault, the chairman of LVMH, said in a statement.

Virgil was a name tied up into the Drake and Kanye feud, both artistes seemingly were close to him with Kanye not being so close in recent times, both raps about him many times.
