Digicel To Introduce The eSIM in December 2022

Digicel first publicized its intent to go digital in 2020 and has been making seemingly effortless progress in the digital market. This year, the company celebrated its second anniversary (on Thursday, October 20, 2022) as Jamaica’s Digital Operator.

In the wake of Digicel’s anniversary, the announcement was made that the company, in its efforts to supply top-tier digital performance to its loyal customers, would be implementing the use of eSIM-enabled (Electronic SIM) devices. It is expected that this will come to fruition by December 2022.

Customers who had the intent to purchase the eSIM-only version of the iPhone 14 can consider the December timeline as an extended period by which to acquire their purchases. This will enable customers to take full advantage of the digital experience being offered. Additionally, before the full introduction of the eSIM in December, customers will be able to purchase the dual version (the physical and eSIM formats) of the iPhone 14 to get a head start on the upgraded digital lifestyle. This will be done using the Digicel SIMs that they already have.

Currently, only the iPhone 14 is supported with the new initiation.

Electronic SIMs are a digital form of physical SIM cards that are used islandwide by both Digicel and Flow users. Digicel is affording its customers the luxury of being able to connect to its network by way of tablets, smartphones, and other IoT devices so that they can get the best LTE coverage and data speeds available.

The devices are equipped with embedded eSIMs, thus the transition and connectivity to the network more quickly and flawless.

Currently, even if a smartphone is equipped to work with an eSIM, more than ninety-nine percent of those smartphones are still capable of working with a physical SIM card.
