It was the latest one in a series that has been rattling the island recently and caused extensive damage to the US territory.
At 8:54 local time the quake was felt eight miles or (14 km) southeast of Guanica, a town that was hard hit by other earthquakes earlier. It is on the southern Caribbean coastline of the island.
One person was killed on the Tuesday before, when a 6.4 magnitude quake caused terrible damage and knocked out electric power.
