Elaine Thompson-Herah to Open 100m Season in Eugene vs Sha’Carri Richardson on Saturday

It was reported, days ago, that Jamaican sprinter Elaine Thompson-Herah will open her 2024 season at the 2024 Grenada Invitational on June 6. However, based on new reports on Wednesday, Thompson-Herah will open her season on Saturday, May 25.
As per The Prefontaine Classic on X and also their website, “5x Olympic champion Elaine Thompson-Herah joins the 100m at the Pre Classic… The fastest women in the world go head-to-head this Saturday,” as per reports from Sportsmax, the fastest woman alive will go up against reigning world champion Sha’Carri Richardson.
The race will also be a 100m season opener for Richardson who earlier opened her 200m season.
The 2024 Diamond League season’s next event will be the 2024 Prefontaine Classic set for Hayward Field in Eugene, at the University of Oregon. Tickets for the event is said to be limited and going for $25.

Thompson-Herah is expected to run at about 5: 42 PM on Saturday.
Elaine Thompson-Herah who is preparing for the upcoming 2024 Paris Olympic Games has the second fastest time recorded over the 100m distance with a time of 10.54s, clocked back in 2021, notably at the same meet. Thompson-Herah is also the reigning 100m and 200m Olympic champion.
Despite several injuries over the “past two years” and change of coach, in a recent interview Elaine outlined that she’s “confident” and eyeing a successful Olympics this year. The double-double champion also outlined that she is currently working towards winning another double at the Olympics, to set a new record.
