An unidentified man reportedly shot himself and his young daughter in bushes last night in Browns Hall, St. Catherine. He was pronounced dead and the toddler was admitted to the hospital.
Reports state that there was an argument between the father and the child’s mother in which he abducted the child at approximately 9 pm last night. The mother subsequently went to the police and filed a complaint.
According to St Catherine North Police Senior Superintendent, Howard Chambers, police officers accompanied the woman home and were attacked by the father who fired shots. He escaped with the child in the bushes.
The police continued their pursuit of the gunman, however, the man’s lifeless body was found this morning with gunshot wounds in the bushes. The child is said to have gotten shot in the abdomen.
SSP Chambers confirmed that the father was an ex-security officer and that there are indications that the gun used in the killing was a licensed firearm.
