Female Doctor Kills Her Baby in Murder-Suicide

Forty-year-old Dr. Krystal Cascetta, a well-known breast cancer doctor in New York City (NYC), is believed to have committed murder-suicide with her infant child on Saturday morning. Although the age of the child is unknown, it was mentioned that posts on social media suggest that the baby was born sometime around March.

According to police reports, the killings took place at around 7 AM on Saturday at her home in Somers, Westchester. Dr. Cascetta was a revered Hematology-Oncology specialist and worked at the Mount Sinai Hospital. She died from a gunshot wound, which was self-inflicted, after killing her child.

The doctor resided with her child and husband, 37-year-old Tim Talty, and police report that the murder scene is “consistent with a murder/suicide.” Reports from the state authorities said, “A preliminary investigation revealed that at approximately 7:00 a.m., Krystal Cascetta entered her child’s room and shot her baby and then turned the gun on herself.”

Dr. Cascetta, according to her biography on the Mt. Sinai website, graduated from Albany Medical College and was given an award for the compassion shown toward her patients. She also received a similar award at the Hofstra North Shore LIJ School of Medicine at North Shore University Hospital where she completed her residency.

Cascetta got married to her husband in 2019 and Talty owns the protein bar company Talty Bars which Cascetta assisted with in creating the product.

According to the Talty Bars‘ website, Krystal had always wanted to become a doctor, even showing her interest by wrapping her dolls in gauze as a kid. The site also read, “The people closest to Krystal will tell you that being a doctor is in her DNA.”

When she was in the 8th grade, her best friend’s mother died from breast cancer and Krystal’s path was set in stone as she decided that she would go on to specialize in Medical Oncology.
