Homeless Jamaican Dog Finds a New Home and Family in Florida – Watch Video

Thanks to the efforts of the Montego Bay Animal Haven, the Positively Southwest Florida (SWF) team, and Florida residents, one homeless Jamaican dog has received a brand new home and family.
Earlier this year, ABC7’s Positively SWF team visited Jamaica to give medical supplies donated by Florida residents and the Cape Coral Animal Shelter & Veterinary Clinic to the Montego Bay Animal Haven. During the visit, the team displayed the shelter’s many canine inhabitants, but one made a special impression on host Krista Fogelsong and her team, and he was dubbed Dakota.
In the words of Fogelsong, one good deed led to another, and a fundraiser was started to bring Dakota to Florida so he could find a home.
After Dakota was brought to Florida, he was housed by the Cape Coral Animal Shelter in May while they tried to find him a home. A few months later, Dakota has finally found a new family and a home with three women: Rita Cloninger, Melissa Richards, and Melissa’s mom, Linda Richards.
Jackie Sangster, who works with the Montego Bay Animal Haven, called Dakota’s journey from Jamaica to Florida a success story and expressed her joy that dogs like him could get a happy ending after living on the streets.
