Ahead of the release of her Dancehall-infused track Gimmie A Light later this week, American rapper Ice Spice has released a teaser for the song’s music video. The New York rapper, who rose to popularity for her single Munch, first teased the single last month at the Coachella music festival.

The song features a sample from Dancehall veteran Sean Paul’s 2002 single Gimme the Light. Gimmie the Light was one of several songs released on Jamaican producer Troyton Rami’s Buzz Riddim and was successful locally as well as in the international market.

Amid a resurgence of old-school Dancehall beats, Ice Spice will be bringing her own unique Bronx flavour to a revamped version of the Buzz Riddim, and she teased the visuals for her song on Wednesday.

The teaser showcases multiple clips of the rapper rocking her trademark singer hair while being transported around New York in the back of a pink Range Rover.

The visuals, which showcase pink aesthetics, also see the young rapper navigating a party at a warehouse and twerking at the back of the Rover while a slowed-down sample of Sean Paul’s Gimmie the Light vocals plays.

Notably, the Rover displays a license plate with “Y2K,” the title of Ice Spice’s upcoming debut album, which is expected to be released this year. The teaser was reshared by Troyton, who shared his gratitude in the caption of the post.

Gimmie A Light is set for release this Friday. Watch the teaser below.
