Illegal Contraband Smuggling Operation Found At The Tower Street Adult Correctional Centre

On Tuesday, February 22, 2022, an illegal contraband smuggling operation was discovered by officers at the Tower Street Adult Correctional Centre in Kingston.
Reports are that a large number of prohibited items such as marijuana, cigarettes, alcohol and lighters were found in a staff locker room at the facility.
Meanwhile, State Minister in the Ministry of National Security – Zavia Mayne, emphasized the zero-tolerance policy in the new Corrections Act for the illegal possession of items by correctional officers just a day after the raid.
“Any correctional officer that will aid and abet the inclusion of contraband in the correctional facilities, they too will be dealt with strictly in accordance with the law,” stated Mayne.
The Department of Correctional Service (DCS) advised that they have not determined the staff member responsible for the contraband smuggling operation at the prison.
