Increased Water Bills for Jamaicans in January

The National Water Commission has applied to the Office of Utilities Regulation (OUR) for an increase in the amount Jamaicans pay for water bills.

An increase of approximately 4% was approved and customers will see an increase of 15.5 to 17.8% might be the increase seen by customers in January 2020 when the new rates are applied.

The OUR reported that the NWC did not supply the required information for the normal 5-year tariff, there were weaknesses and a data gap in the submission.

It is an interim tariff as the OUR concluded that it would be prudent to establish the normal 5 year tariff, the NWC will apply for the full tariff in August 2021.
