As reported by several Indian news outlets, a 45-year-old man name Srikesh Kumar was found alive by family members inside a morgue’s freezer. The family visited the morgue where Kumar was being kept several hours after he was declared dead. The man was believed to be dead following a bad motorcycle accident last Friday in a location east of the capital, New Delhi.
Srikesh was declared dead after being taken to a private medical facility, he was later taken to a government hospital. “The emergency medical officer examined him. He did not find any signs of life and hence declared him dead,” said the hospital’s medical superintendent to a news agency.
According to the reports, his body was placed inside the freezer overnight, hours prior to his relatives making the discovery. “When a police team and his family came over to initiate the paperwork for the autopsy, he was found alive,” said a worker from the morgue.
Kumar’s sister-in-law was the one who made the shocking discovery, while observing the body she noticed that he was still moving. “He’s not at all dead. How did this happen? Look, he wants to say something, he is breathing,” the sister in law said. She went on to outline that a complaint against the doctors will be launched for “negligence”, “They almost killed Srikesh by putting him in a freezer,” she concluded.
