The first thing she uttered in the recording was her gratitude to God for sparing her life, and that she loved her husband. Martine then went on to state specifically that “We fought together for more than 25 years. During all these years, love radiated within the home. But suddenly, the mercenaries came and pelted my husband with bullets.”

She also stated that, “You have to be a notorious criminal without guts to assassinate a president like Jovenel Moïse with impunity without giving him the chance to speak”. Moïse went on further to explain that they knew exactly who he was fighting against however they killed him for his vision and things such as bringing electricity to the people, doing road projects, making drinking water available and organizing a referendum as well as the elections.

Even though she said that the mercenaries that killed him are behind bars, Martine expressed that there are still others who would want to continue killing his vision.

According to the Haitian Police, over 12 persons have been arrested for the killing however, the organizer of the brutal act has not yet been found. Most of those in custody for the crime have been said to be retired Colombian Soldiers.
