Interview: Flippa Moggela Talks Birthday Party, Jada Kingdom, EP, Believing in Trap-Dancehall Artistes and More

Veteran Dancehall entertainer Flippa Moggela who has been deejaying since he was attending primary school expressed that he is not about to stop making music anytime soon, furthermore, he’s intent on making this year’s staging of his annual birthday party the biggest one yet.
Dancehall artiste Jada Kingdom is scheduled to host Flippa Moggela’s annual birthday celebration called “Flossing Never Stop”. The “ultimate red carpet” flossing event will be held at the Taj Mahal performance and event venue at Hunting Park in Philadelphia, United States on Saturday, November 2.
In addition to the event’s host, partygoers will be treated to music by Foota Hype, ZJ Johnny Kool from Zip FM, DJ Stagga, and Pappa Skully.
In a chat with Yardhype, Flippa explains that despite the event being his main priority at the moment, he is already planning to release the first song from his upcoming EP which will consist of 8 songs. As per the entertainer, the project will feature multiple collaborations with a few big names that may surprise the public.
Flippa Moggela whose birth name is Andrew Davis will be celebrating his 46th birthday on October 31.
In a video shared on Instagram on October 30, he reassured fans that Jada Kingdom will be at the event from 12PM, however, because of pressure from the authorities the event might end at 2 AM, hence patrons should turn out early.
We had a questions and answers session with Flippa Moggela, See the questions and answers below:
Q: What’s the meaning being the word “Flippa” in your name?
A: Mi get the name from mi young, it was from a movie with the Dophin name ‘Flippa’, as a youth i usually like play in water, so they gave me the name Flippa.
Q: Where in Jamaica are you from?
A: Capture-land in Waterhouse.
Q: What would you say you are more proud about, being in Shottas Movie or making your mark in Dancehall?
A: I would say i’m more proud of my accomplishments in music and how i manage to stand out because of my personality.
Q: What are the plans for music in the near future?
A: I’m doing an EP right now and it’s almost finish, just waiting on a few tracks to complete, mi a try drop one a the song them fi the Christmas, then the EP in January, 8 solid tracks.
Q: Jada will be hosting the event, which is a big deal. Which of your events over the years you would say was your most successful?
A: This event, mi birthday party ‘Flossing Never Stop’ is always the biggest thing that i keep yearly, because it is a flossing event that a deh suh you come see cases and cases of champagne and bottles pan bottles and flossers and people just a have fun so my birthday party was always the one.
Q: Who’s your favourite Dancehall Artiste Male and Female?
A: I don’t really have a favourite artiste but i like weh some a the young artistes them a duh like Skillibeng and 450, mi still rate Kartel, Aidonia and Pocaan them. In terms a females, Spice in a total different category but i am amazed by what Jada and Shenseea a duh, suh mi affi gi dem dem respoect.
Q: Who’s your Favourite Reggae Artiste?
A: Mi affi give Romain Virgo enuh, that’s where mi ago guh with it, plus mi rate Koffee too. Mi rate Jahmiel too, like him message and dem things deh.
Q: Which musician has been most influential in your musical career in terms of their musical style or one you have worked with?
A: Mi come from Capleton stable suh, i learned a lot from King Shango, Terror Fabulous teach mi to make song and being around Buju Banton was also inspiring.
Q: What Keeps You grounded? (Things you do to relax/chill)
A: Domino and Playstation, like Fifa, most a mi song dem wi mi build a when mi siding a vibes with friends outside of the studio.
Q: What do you miss the most about Jamaica?
A: Mi miss the people them the most, interacting with mi Jamaican people them, mi miss a siddung pan the beach a hold a vibe, mi nuh really miss the food that much because mi send fi mi seasoning dem from Jamaica and cook the same food over here.
Q: What’s your Favourite Jamaican dish?
A: Ackee and Salt-fish.
Q: Which do you hold in higher regard, and why: Reggae Grammy Award or a song in top 30 of the Billboard hot 100 chart?
A: Grammy over the Billboard, because Grammy is always something you can look back pan.
Q: Unfinished House, Repeat, Dem Yah, Rolling Deep and Mi Nuh Bruk are arguably your most popular songs, please list in order from 1 to 5 your most popular songs in your opinion based on the crowd’s feedback when you perform.
A: I would say my number one song is Dem Yah, then Rolling Deep, then Ear Mi Ear, then Unfinish House, then Repeat.
Q: How many children Flippa Moggela?
A: 10 Children currently.
Q: You seemingly are the first Dancehall artiste to own a Porsche in Jamaica, remind us which year you brought the Porsche to Jamaica?
A: I had a Panamera in Jamaica from 2011 and i never drive it until 2012, one year it deh a Jamaica fah before mi guh drive. I had two of them in Jamaica, along with the Panamera i had the Cayenne, suh mi have the car and the truck.
Q: Do you think nowadays Dancehall(Trap Dancehall) has the potential to outdo the Dancehall of the 90s or 2000s?
A: Yes, base-up on weh mi si some a the youths dem a duh some things that older artistes never duh, even though Shaggy and Sean Paul set a standard. Weh mi si Skillibeng duh, weh mi si Teejay duh weh-day plus weh mi si Spice do.
