Interview: Thug Famous has Big Plans for 2025 Including Tommy Lee Collab. Talks Dancehall, EP and More

Rising Dancehall artiste Thug Famous who hails from the Grants Pen community in St. Andrew is keen on making his mark in the genre, detailing some of his plans for the near future.

The Mad Dawg Entertainment signed artiste and past student of Oberlin High School & Holly Trinity High School has been recording music since 2012, before he left school. His latest released song titled ‘Addicted’, produced by his management team was accompanied by a music video that’s currently getting positive feedback on YouTube and social media, especially on TikTok.

In a chat with Yardhype, Thug Famous whose real name is Demoy Plant Highlights that, he believes that the young Dancehall artistes who are doing Trap-Dancehall including himself have ‘upgraded’ the genre, however the lack of Unity in the music is causing the genre to not reach it’s full potential.

Q: Why the name “Thug Famous”?
A: “Base on my lifestyle I got my name from a great legend in the Dancehall music industry.”

Q: When did you decide that you wanted to take on music full time?
A: “I’ve decided that I wanna take the music serious in the year 2012 when i recorded my first song, that time I know that music is what i really wanted to do forever.”

Q: Which artiste you would say you are most inspired by?
A: “I’m mostly inspired by myself an rappers such as 2Pac 50Cent an YNW Melly recently.”

Q: List your top 3 songs based on their popularity and the feedback you get from listeners.
A: 1. Thug Famous – Soulja
2. Thug Famous – Heart Cry
3. Thug Famous – Addicted

Q: What’s the title of your next release and when will it be.
A: “Thug Famous ‘Voice Grip’ release on Christmas Day an Thug Famous x Tommy Lee releasing early 2025.”

Q: Which do you hold in higher regard, and why: Reggae Grammy Award or a song that peaks at #30 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart?
A: “Both, I’m a very talented artiste, an I’m more talented than 90 percent of dancehall and I know in the near future I’ll be featured on all the great platforms the music industry have ever see.”

Q: Any of your family members in Music?
A: “I’m the first in my family that do music but I got a lot of friends that I’ve grown up with in the music industry that’s very popular as well.”

Q: Any Plans to drop Album or EP in the near future?
A: “I’m working on a big EP right at this point for 2025.”

Q: Do you think nowadays Dancehall has the potential to outdo the Dancehall of the 90s(Shabba) or 2000s(Shaggy), also what you believe will improve the reach of nowadays Dancehall aka Trap dancehall.
A: “I do think nowadays Dancehall can surpass the back in the days Dancehall because I think that nowadays Dancehall got more talent, the upgrade version of back in the days Dancehall, but we just need to be more united an I think back in the days people supported the culture more than nowadays that’s why it’s kinda harder for nowadays Dancehall.”
