Dancehall artistes Cham, Bounty Killer, Jada kingdom and Dexta Daps may now add acting to their Résumés following their starring roles in their joint project with Madhouse Records, the Slow Motion short film.
Cham, Bounty, and Dexta premiered the short film alongside its director, Dennis Brown, at the ROK Hotel in downtown Kingston on Wednesday. The 17-minute film was made to accompany their new single of the same name and was released on Friday, shortly after the song.
Slow Motion reflects on the bygone rub-a-dub days of dancehall, when parties and dancehall music were centred around women and men coming together, unlike the genre’s modern, more aggressive undertones.
The film begins with an audio clip from OnStage‘s Winford Williams and a voice-over by Cham. Williams speaks on Cham and Bounty’s previous collaboration with Madhouse, their 2022 track BLOOD CLXXT, while Cham reminisces about dancehall and its past.
Slow Motion features appearances by Jada Kindomsound and sound system selector DJ Lava and also intercuts vintage footage from dancehall parties. The movie’s soundtrack highlights some of Madhouse Records’ past hits, such as Cham’s Gallang Yah Gal, Wayne Wonder’s Bashment Party, and Keep Them Coming.
