Jada Pinkett Smith Says She Will Never Leave Will Smith After He Gave Chris Rock A “Holy Slap”
The Will Smith Oscars slap that undoubtedly went down in time as the worst moment in Oscar history seems to be one of the best moments in Jada Pinkett Smith’s marriage.
Although Chris Rock was harshly smacked and Will’s career did not come out unscathed, Jada believes that the slap saved her marriage.
Following their 1997 wedding, Jada and Will have been separated since 2016, as disclosed in her memoir. The couple struggled with a lot of marital problems, some of which were made public, like Jada’s notorious affair with singer August Alsina.
After the controversial slap that Will Smith gave Chris Rock at the 2022 Oscars when Chris made fun of Jada’s baldness, which was caused by her alopecia, they appeared to have made progress in their marriage.
The incident, which many know as the Oscars Slap, is labelled by Jada as the “Holy Slap” because in its wake came a string of positive things.
“I nearly didn’t even attend the Oscars that year, but I’m glad I did,” Jada told the Daily Mail. “I call it the ‘holy slap’ now because so many positive things came after it.”
Adding to this, she expressed that the slap was a breakthrough in allowing her to see that she would never leave her husband, which she has questioned doing for years. “After all those years trying to figure out if I would leave Will’s side, it took that slap for me to see I will never leave him,” Jada continued.
It is unclear how much progress the two have made, but Will also expressed in October that their “very, very long and tumultuous” marriage has been “brutal and beautiful at the same time.”
