Jamaica has made a notable leap in the Henley Passport Index, securing the 55th spot in the latest rankings. This ranking, which evaluates the visa-free access of 199 different passports to 227 travel destinations, reflects Jamaica‘s growing global mobility.
The index assigns a score of 1 for destinations where no visa is required, or where a visa can be obtained on arrival (VOA), a visitor’s permit, or an electronic travel authority (ETA). Conversely, a score of 0 is given for destinations requiring a visa or an e-Visa prior to departure, or where pre-departure government approval for a VOA is necessary.
Earlier in 2024, Jamaica was ranked 60th, marking a significant improvement as the island nation climbed five places to its current position, before that, Jamaica’s rank was 63rd. This recent improvement highlights Jamaica’s increasing global reach and ease of travel for many of its citizens. As per the Henley Passport Index, Jamaica has access to 89 visa-free destinations.
The island’s best placement on the list was in 2006 when it was ranked 43rd.
On the other hand, Jamaica’s current mobility score according to passportindex.org stands at 99, indicating the number of destinations its passport holders can access with relative ease. This score is broken down into 89 visa-free destinations, 39 destinations where a VOA is available, and 5 destinations offering entry through an ETA. Despite these advancements, there remain 99 destinations that require a visa for Jamaican passport holders.
Passportindex.org also has a Passport Power Rank which ranks Jamaica at 48, back in 2023 Jamaica was ranked at 51. Currently, Jamaica has a world reach of 50%.
