Jamaica continues to grapple with the highest amount of Covid-19 cases on the island at this time.
Dr. Tufton said “the staff needed for the field hospitals might be a bit difficult to find, but arrangements are being made to add new nurses to the nursing staff working in hospitals now.”.
The field hospital that was placed at the National Chest Hospital in Kingston will be removed to the Spanish Town hospital because the hospital in the old Capital is now overwhelmed.
He is expecting to have an extra 495 Covid beds in different hospitals around the island, that are running out of beds now.
More than 662 healthcare workers are being trained to administer the Astra Zeneca Covid-19 vaccine. The vaccines should be on the island sometime this month, but the exact date has not been set.
This vaccine is recommended for old people, pregnant women and most other persons.
The country’s cases have been climbing steadily and at least 5 persons died over the past 48hrs.
The health minister said there has been a worrying trend connected to workplace clusters of positive cases. He warned the workers that they should stay home when they have symptoms even if they are not very ill, as it is bad for businesses and other workers, when Covid-19 is spread.
