Jamaica Public Service Calls for 90 Days Suspension of GCT on Electricity Bill

The Jamaica Public Service, JPS is calling on the government to temporarily remove the GCT charge for 90 days on electricity bills, to give consumers a break during the coronavirus pandemic crisis which caused a lot of Jamaicans to be out of work.

Vernon Douglas, the JPS Chief Financial Officer, says the company is also calling the Special Consumption Tax removed on fuel.

The Holness Government is contemplating making some adjustments to the GCT on electricity tax. The call from the JPS executive came as well-placed sources said before.   

Douglas says the light and power company is working to ensure proper service delivery throughout the duration of the pandemic.

The Chief Financial Officer, Vernon Douglas was speaking on the weekend at a digital town hall meeting.
