Jamaican Fisherman Dies in Nicaragua

A Jamaican boat captain died after he spent 22 days adrift, he was found off the coast of Nicaragua. Two other men who were on the boat were rescued and they have not returned home as yet.

The deceased Captain was identified as John Strekley and he was buried in Nicaragua.
The fishermen who survived explained that they travelled 30 miles out to sea and they were surprised by a strong storm that damaged the left side of the boat.

They were drifting without fuel and food until ran aground on the Halouver coast in Nicaragua, where they received help from people in a community.

Strekley was taken to the health post in the town by residents and it is alleged that he died and he was buried.

The surviving fishermen were sent to the immigration authorities to make plans for their return to Jamaica.
