Jamaican Sentenced to 57 Months in US Prison for Sending Guns and Ammunition to The Island

Jermaine Rhooms the Jamaican who pleaded guilty in July 2019 to sending 19 guns and over 3000 rounds of ammunition, was sentenced to 57 months in a US federal prison. 

The judge handed down the sentence after the Director of Public Prosecutions, Paula Llewellyn addressed the US Federal court in Florida. The guns and assorted rounds of ammunition were sent in a barrel to Jamaica.

On July 20, 2017 the arms were found on the wharf when Jamaican police were told to search 2 suspicious containers by cops from the US, after they arrived on the island. 

It is alleged that Rhooms, went to the United States illegally after he left Britain because he was deported.

He was hit with the higher end of the guidelines that is used by the court after he admitted to being the sender of the barrel.
