A twenty-four-year-old Jamaican woman has been arrested and charged in North Miami Beach, Florida, USA, for the death of her 3-year-old daughter, whom she admitted to stabbing to death.
The North Miami Beach Police Department confirmed the mother’s arrest, and she has been identified as Jellisa Amoya Baxter. According to reports from Loop News, the Frankfield, Clarendon, native killed the toddler on Tuesday, then allegedly called the police and admitted to the crime.
Upon arrival, the police found Baxter dressed in a white robe and discovered the child’s body lying on the floor. The 3-year-old had several deep stab wounds to her chest, neck, and face and was pronounced deceased on the scene. The murder weapon, a knife, was found next to the toddler’s body.
Though no motive for the murder was revealed, Baxter reportedly told the police that she had initially tried to strangle her daughter but stabbed her after it did not work. Baxter was taken into custody and is being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center. The 24-year-old has been charged with first-degree murder and aggravated child abuse.
