Jamaica’s Latest Track-Star; Nickisha Pryce Breaks 21YO 400m National Record

23-year-old Jamaican athlete Nickisha Pryce is currently the island’s 400m record holder after breaking the previous record on Saturday that was set almost 22 years ago by Lorraine Fenton in July of 2002.

The previous record was 49.30 and the new record by Pryce is 48.89 seconds which is also the world-leading time for this season, the time is also the 13th fastest time in history over the distance for females.

The impressive time which got her gold was clocked at the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I Outdoor Championships at Hayward Field in Eugene, USA.

With this run, Pryce also betters her previous PB which was 49.32 set in May of 2024. Pryce who is a University of Arkansas senior also set a new collegiate record with the run, the previous collegiate record was 49.13.
