Speaking with entertainment journalist Anthony Miller, Jamal explained that the rise in popularity of his phrase signifies a shift in time.

“Things and times change. Yuh see if yuh listen to the music back den most man a sing bout Selassie and dung by di riva. Nuh body nah guh dung a riva again. Pipe run in a dem house,” Jamal said.

Jamal said that his controversial slang was coined in 2012 and it has since grown into a “food basket” that has provided an income for many. However, Jamal said that there is only one “dunce man,” and that is him, so he will be taking action against those who have stolen from him.

He went on to compare himself to Marcus Garvey, citing this as the reason why people are fighting against him.

“We a fi di people… Suh me end up get blame and some lickle ting… But di fully dunce ting now a fi wake dem up. Me grow up in a gyaltegobay, and me observe an si wull heep a ting. Mi si weh nuff yute fall short. Dem just fall short because dem nuh know how fi come to yuh fi ask yuh a simple question… Di dunce ting kind a bring it out in a dem. Free dem up, suh dem can express themself more,” Jamal said.

Speaking on the business of music and why deejays chose to sing about scamming and other illegal activities, Jamal expressed that he is simply catering to the wants of his customers/listeners. Jamal briefly spoke on another controversial topic, skin bleaching, and shared that he chose to do it because of Kartel.

“Kartel a mi artiste man… Yah fi bay looks man. Looks sell to enuh,” Jamal said in response to if bleaching had gone out of style.
