On Sunday at the 2024 Grammys in Los Angeles, California, New York rapper Jay Z made sure to remind the Grammy committee about their seemingly frequent shortcomings concerning nominees and winners of the prestigious award.
Jay Z was accepting the 2nd annual Dr. Dre Global Impact Award when he decided to tell stories about his love-hate relationship with the Grammys. Highlighting that even when he decides to boycott the show, he still watches it.
“We want y’all to get it right. At least getting close to right. And obviously, it’s subjective,” he stated.
He continued, highlighting a “young lady” in particular who he believes has been treated unfairly by the Grammys. This “young lady” according to the internet is his wife Beyonce, Jay Z stated, “I don’t want to embarrass this young lady, but she has more Grammys than everyone and never won album of the year.”
In asking the committee to look at themselves and their actions, he stated, “So even by your own metrics, that doesn’t work. Think about that. The most Grammys never won album of the year. That doesn’t work.”
Notably, Beyoncé has been nominated for album of the year on four occasions but never won the award.
“You know, some of you gonna go home tonight and feel like you’ve been robbed. Some of you may get robbed. Some of you don’t belong in a category. No, when I get nervous I tell the truth,” Jayz stated as he stood next to his daughter whom he acknowledged several times during his lengthy speech.
