55-year-old Shawn ‘Jay Z’ Carter has been named in a federal lawsuit accusing him of raping a 13-year-old girl in 2000. The lawsuit, originally filed in October against Sean “Diddy” Combs, was refiled Sunday in the Southern District of New York to include Carter.
The accuser, identified only as “Jane Doe,” alleges that the assault took place after she was driven to an MTV Video Music Awards after-party. Texas-based attorney Tony Buzbee, who represents the plaintiff, has not commented on the case.
Carter responded to the allegations in a statement, dismissing them as “idiotic” and calling for the accuser to file criminal charges if the claims are genuine.
Jay Z stated, “These allegations are so heinous in nature that I implore you to file a criminal complaint, not a civil one!” Carter stated, emphasizing that victims deserve “real justice.”
The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York declined to comment on whether it would pursue a criminal investigation.
This lawsuit is the latest in a series of accusations filed by Buzbee against Combs, all involving unnamed complainants. A spokesperson for Combs dismissed the suits as “shameless publicity stunts” aimed at extracting settlements.
