Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) has teamed up with Flow and Spectrum Management Authority (SMA) on a vaccination drive in Downtown Kingston, which they are calling “Come Tek Di Juk”.
The vaccination drives have been kick-started by the Government of Jamaica with whom according to Maria Myers-Hamilton the managing director of (SMA), her organization is working to reach their goals to fight the Covid-19 pandemic.
Earlier this year, the Government released a public statement saying that Jamaica is seeking to have up to 65 per cent of its population vaccinated.
So far the vaccination drives have not been all out effective, as the numbers show that only 14 per cent of the country’s population got the jab.
It is this reason why the fast food and Telecom companies decided to work with (SMA) on this project, offering those persons who make the decision to be vaccinated, KFC and phone credit.
The organisers of the vaccination drive also made prior preparations to make persons getting the jab as comfortable as possible, by allowing them to listen to music and watch sports as they wait.
According to Myers-Hamilton who provided a statement to the Jamaica Gleaner, it is the corporate responsibility of the organisation she manages and directs, to help inner-city Downtown residents since (SMA) is also located in the vicinity.
The managing director for (SMA) stated that they are aware that the average person in the inner city communities experiences struggle, so the special vaccination drive is their effort to make a difference.
The (SMA) organization says that their actions have been taken as an encouragement for people to take the vaccines, knowing that the private and public sector is on the verge of implementing vaccine mandates.
Myers-Hamilton in her statement also urged persons to take personal responsibility in high regard, since it is a necessary factor to protect themselves in the Covid-19 pandemic.
So far it is being reported that over 150,000 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine, have been disposed of due to being spoiled from non-usage.
