Killings in Jamaica is up by 6% while Rape is Down by 46%

Jamaica News, It has been 52 days since 2021 began and over 200 murders have been committed in Jamaica.
The latest statistics compiled by the police stated that 212 killings in total were recorded islandwide since January 1 of this year, this is a 6% increase over the same period last year.
Jamaica recorded just over 1,300 murders in 2020.
Shootings are up 9% this year also.
The figures are showing, 189 shootings were recorded, 15 more when the total was compared with the same period of time last year.
The added killings and shootings are happening amid the nightly curfews and other COVID-19 containment measures that were imposed by the government, which restricted the movement of citizens largely.
The last crime figures are showing a 46% drop in the reported rapes; a 28% decrease in reported break-ins and an 8% decrease in reported robberies.
