Lil Wayne Expresses “Hurt” in Shared Video after Super Bowl Snub

Lil Wayne responds in an emotional video, after days of public outcry from fans in New Orleans and fellow rappers who are disappointed that Lil Wayne will not be performing at the Super Bowl in his hometown.
Lil Wayne, 41, expressed his feelings about being overlooked for the coveted Super Bowl halftime performance, stating, “I blame myself for not being mentally prepared for a letdown… I thought there was nothing better than that spot, on that stage, in my city, so it hurt a whole lot.”
In the two-minute and forty-two-second video, dressed in red, black, and white, he sat on a couch and thanked his fans and peers for their support. “I feel like I let all of y’all down by not getting that opportunity, but I’m working on me, thank you,” he said.
He expressed that despite the disappointment, he remains motivated by the overwhelming love from his supporters.
On Sunday, the NFL, Roc Nation, and Apple Music announced that Kendrick Lamar would headline the Super Bowl LIX halftime show, set for 9th February 2025 at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans. This marks the first time a hip-hop artist will lead the show solo.
Lamar secured the spot after an intense rivalry with Drake earlier in the year, bolstered by his diss track “Not Like Us” and a record-breaking Juneteenth performance. Despite Lamar’s success, figures like Master P, Birdman and Nicki Minaj have voiced their displeasure at the decision.
In recent times Usher in 2024, and Rihanna in 2023 headlined the Super Bowl halftime show, and their performances went viral around the world, it’s one of the biggest stages for artistes to perform on yearly.
