According to reports, a member of the Jamaica Defense Force (JDF) shot and killed a man who was allegedly seen firing a weapon in the manner of a salute on New Year’s Eve. The event occurred along Penwood Road, Kingston 11, where it is also reported that two guns were discovered at the scene.
“Life is precious yet some people just live so reckless,” a viewer stated, while others thought of the act as mandatory despite the warnings.
The Police Commissioner, Anthony Anderson, warned against potential gun salutes during the holiday season in an interview with Radio Jamaica News (RJR). General Anderson also states that gun salutes are illegal, and persons who engage in the practice can be charged under the new Firearm Act.
“You do not want to be using your gun, whether legal or illegal, in any way; just no gun salutes,” Commissioner Anderson highlighted.
