A 71-year-old woman was attacked by a carjacker who brutally beat her before taking off in her car and met his ultimate fate when he fatally crashed shortly after.
The elderly woman named San Antonian Shirlene Hernandez received severe injuries from the thief while she was running errands, which was when the perpetrator came up to her.
Reportedly, the thief repeatedly hit her in the face before he grabbed her keys from her hands and drove off. The wrecked car was later found on the interstate highway by police, who also discovered the body of the suspected thief.
However, the elderly woman did not think of his death as karma because she felt “really sad” about the situation regardless of him beating her. Mrs Hernandez told KABB during an interview that things ended that way because the “Lord saw fit to take him out of his misery “.
She also shared that she wishes persons who hear of her story are encouraged to do good and step forward to help persons in whatever situations they may be in.
Although the experience was a horrible one, Mrs Hernandez is carrying on with her life as she works and saves to purchase another vehicle. Hernandez, who has since created a GoFundMe page for assistance in buying a car to go to ‘work or appointments’, has received over US$20,000 in donations.
“I realised – I don’t have a car. I just don’t want to quit working, and so I’ve got to somehow get another car and that takes money and stuff. I’ve got to figure out what to do,” she said explaining how the GoFundMe started.
