A man was shot by a Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) officer in Pico (Los Angeles, California, USA) after advancing on him at a run and failing to listen when told to stop moving forward.
Bodycam footage of the sergeant captured the suspect, identified as Felipe Guerrero, as he spotted him taking off. The officer commanded Guerrero to stop by shouting, “hey stay right there, stay right there, stay right there!!! Get back, I’ll shoot you, I’ll shoot!!…” Failing to follow the sergeant’s commands, Guerrero kept running and was shot a few feet away from the spooked authority figure. A total of four shots were fired before Guerrero went down.
Another angle on the footage shows a fellow police officer warning the other of the incoming danger by shouting “careful”.
After the shooting, the officers on the scene gathered around the suspect trying to handcuff him, although he could barely move, and locate the knife that was said to be in his possession. The knife was recovered, and Guerrero was taken to a hospital for treatment where he was pronounced dead.
The video of the shooting was uploaded to the World Star website where, after viewing the footage, someone commented, “I think this was the shooting on Sawtelle near Pico. Way too many homeless hangin around under the freeway,” while another person said, “he did wait till the last second tho, suïcide by cop.”
Judging by the time stamp on the video, the incident took place in July, however, the footage was recently released to the public.
