Former American sprinter, Michael Johnson who is a four-time Olympic gold medallist, gave his opinion on the “fastest” male sprinters. In his statement, he listed Usain Bolt, Noah Lyles, Marcell Jacobs and Kishane Thompson.
According to Johnson who is considered a top-5 great male sprinter of all time, his statement has the “facts” and “Everything else is opinion” surrounding the many debates that are spiralling online about who is the ‘Fastest man in the world’.
On July 27, he wrote, “Some facts: Usain is fastest ever. PERIOD Noah is World Champion. PERIOD Marcel is Olympic Champion. PERIOD Kishane has the fastest time in the world. PERIOD Everything else is opinion, and opinions are not facts! One more fact because this is X: Michael is old and slow AF!”
After his breakdown, most of the comments on the post were about his greatness in the sport, however, his statement was dismissed by some users on X where he made the remarks. In reply, one person commented, “Most of these facts won’t be facts in two weeks. They will all be a part of Black History (except the last one LOL).”
Interestingly, being a fellow American Johnson did not list Noah Lyles as the fastest man in the world, which is something seemingly most American track fans do. While on the other hand, most Jamaican track supporters are adamant that Bolt is the fastest.
Another X user wrote, “So if usain is the fastest ever AND he is still alive, last time i checked, then he is the fastest man alive….that’s not an opinion its a fact. Unless there is someone else out there who can run faster than 9.58.”
Johnson also followed up, saying, “But everybody keep having “fun” with this. Nothing better than people name calling, shaming, claiming conspiracies, and getting absolutely heated, about track!”
The 8-time World Champion did not label anyone as ‘The fastest man in the world‘, stating that it’s an opinion, ““Fastest Man or Woman In The World” sounds like a title, but in reality it is an opinion,” he stated.
A user also shared a list of men who ran “Top 10” fastest time this year.
Noah Lyles who has called himself ‘The fastest man in the world’ on multiple occasions, recently posted a statement online, declaring that he’s the fastest man in the world because he won the 100m at the last World Championships, he also named Sha’carri Richardson as the fastest woman in the world, because she won the 100m at the World Championships.
