A horrific shooting incident early Sunday morning resulted in the death of 2 youths and at least 8 people suffering gunshot injuries during a party that was hosted at a Pittsburgh Airbnb rental where more than 200 people attended.
The shooting, which was caught in a heartbreaking video, took place around 12:30 a.m and, according to Pittsburgh police, many of the party attendees who were caught in the shootout are underage.
Police are currently investigating the incident and, while they have not made any arrests at the moment, Police Chief Scott Schubert reported that it was a “top priority to find out who did this and get them off the street”. Chief Schubert also shared that he believed there were multiple shooters.
Reportedly more than 50 shots were fired in the house and several more rounds were fired outside the home. At the scene, the shell casings that were found are from rifles and pistols. The police reported that evidence from 8 separate crime scenes which spanned several blocks was being processed.
“It’s heartbreaking; here we are at Easter and we have multiple families, two that won’t see a loved one. How can you even have a holiday when your child was involved in something traumatic like this?” Chief Schubert stated
It was also reported that partygoers jumped out the windows in order to escape the nightmare which left them with broken bones and lacerations.
In the video that was recorded during a live stream by one of the partygoers, many people are seen scrambling for safety as they scream and flee the house.
According to the Airbnb spokesperson, Ben Breit, the booker, who had to be 18 or older per Airbnb rules, rented the property through the company and they have since been given a lifetime ban. Briet also stated that the party broke the rule of the owner who listed parties are banned and included an overnight noise curfew.
According to neighbour Mitchell Wilston, there was a line of people outside the Airbnb and cars parked wrong along the street when he and his wife was leaving their home Saturday and he could tell that “there was going to be a problem” with the number of 14-year-olds that were waiting outside. His instincts could not have predicted the hell that was going to take place which left his wife’s white car smeared with blood Sunday morning.
“It’s extremely, extremely disconcerting to see the way the bullets were fired were perpendicular to our house,” he stated.
This incident is only one of three high-profile shootings that have placed a dark cloud over the Easter weekend. One shooting incident resulted in nine people being injured at a Hampton County club in South Carolina. Another shooting took place at a crowded mall in Columbia, South Carolina and left 14 people wounded.
