Mother Charged Following 8YO’s Death in Westmoreland

29-year-old Sharone McDonald was charged by the Westmoreland police with child cruelty following the death of her eight-year-old son in a house fire last weekend. McDonald’s arrest came after authorities received a witness statement.

According to reports, McDonald left her son, Jahmiel Richardson, unattended in their one-bedroom house. The incident occurred around 11:00 pm at their residence in Top Lincoln, Grange Hill.

Flames were observed coming from the house and the boy was heard calling for help. Community members rushed to the scene, however, the fire quickly consumed the structure, preventing any rescue attempt.

After being alerted, both the police and the Savanna-la-Mar Fire Department arrived on the scene. After the Blaze was put out, the charred remains of the Peggy Barry Primary student were discovered in the rear section of the house.
