Mother of Father’s Day Suspected Killer Defends Her Son
The mother of the 20-year-old man who killed his girlfriend Tashika McKay, says he was a good guy. Claire Bailey, the mother whose son, Markland ‘CJ’ Hayles was accused of killing his girlfriend who was 8 months pregnant, on Father’s Day is saying he didn’t confess to doing it. “Him confess? Or them beat him fe talk say him confess? A must that,” the grieving mother said to the Jamaica Star.
After Hayles was locked up by the police, he was later found hanging from a back vent grill of the cell that he was staying in. He was reportedly hanged by a merino and a cord. The police took him to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) began a probe into the death. The police had reported that he was the only person in the cell at the time of his death. A post-mortem examination will be done and the officer that was assigned to cell guard duty provided an initial account of the incident surrounding the death and he will be asked to give another statement to investigators.
Clair Bailey does not believe her son killed himself. She reported that he is a good guy, who was never in trouble at school or with the police before.
Even though the police report stated that her son had confessed to the police at the May Pen Criminal Investigations Branch that he had committed the crime, the mother believes he was beaten and just said he did it to put an end to the torture.
On the other hand, Sylvia McKay from Clarendon is happy her daughter’s boyfriend is dead. she believes his mother will be going through the same grieving process that she is facing, because of how much she loved her daughter.
Hayles was enrolled in a culinary program administered by the Human Employment and Resource Training Trust and was throwing a partner to buy things for his pregnant girlfriend when he died, the mother reported.
Previously, when he was being brought into Custody, the residents of the Mason River community where he was arrested, stoned him and wanted the police to even kill him for allegedly taking the life of Tashika Mckay who was found lifeless with her throat slashed at the house in Rhoden Hall where the incident took place.
The young man did the gruesome act to his pregnant girlfriend after they reportedly had an argument about who is her unborn child’s father. The victim also had a young child. The killing took place inside his girlfriend’s home, in Rhoden Hall Kellits, Clarendon.
