The mother of Odaine Parkes who was shot alongside another man at a gas station at the foot of Red Hills on Monday is expressing her concerns, according to her Odaine was not known to be involved in anything wrong and she described him as being a calm and quiet person.
The distraught mom said that Parkes was the type of person that would cry, even as an adult if she shouts at him. She stated to the Jamaica Star who she spoke with that her son was employed at a Gas Station but he claimed it was not offering enough in paying so he left the job. The mother whose name is Marie said she has no knowledge of her son ever being a part of any bad company as she usually would warn him about it.
The 25-year-old man who resides in Portmore, St. Catherine was shot after a gunman approached the white Subaru they were travelling in while at the gas station and opened fire. The footage was captured on a surveillance camera and it could be seen where Parkes had made an effort to escape; however, he ended up failing.
After the incident, the men were taken to the Kingston Public hospital where they were pronounced dead. While Parkes was identified as one of the deceased persons, the other individual’s identity is still unknown.
According to Parkes’ mother who lives outside Jamaica, she picked up on the energy as she was at work but felt very ill and knew something was wrong. It was sometime after, that she received a call from Odaine’s father, informing her of the tragedy.
In response to the shooting, Marie was very hurt about the situation and wondered why the person who did the shooting had to, and why they did not report the matter to the Police if it is that her son did something wrong.
