Veteran Dancehall entertainer Mr. Vegas argues against the recent Order of Distinction bestowed upon his colleague Wayne Marshall a few days ago in Jamaica’s annual Heroes Day celebrations. According to Vegas, he can point to countless other artistes who are more deserving of such an award.
The reggae/dancehall artistes on Vegas list include the likes of Bounty Killer, Beenie Man, Terro Fabulous, Tanya Stephens and Gytptian, just to name a few. Vegas continued his case by making the point that Wayne Marshall has not contributed to Jamaica’s music industry as the artiste he mentioned, and they should have all received awards before Wayne Marshall.
Vegas was most baffled as to why legendary artistes Bounty Killer and Beenie Man were not awarded as of yet despite their continued contributions to the music industry and elongated catalogues of recordings. Of all the artistes Vegas mentioned, he was most surprised that they had not been considered and posed a few questions as to why.
“Beenie Man and Bounty Killer fi get OD long time if Beenie and Bounty nuh get OD it’s like the government or the people them weh inna authority a tell we seh Beenie and Bounty inna summin’ why them caa get OD, obviously Beenie and Bounty mix up inna summin’ or have summin’ a stop them from get OD,” Vegas declared.
The Blessed singer eventually put himself up as more deserving of an award over Wayne Marshall. However, he admitted that the many artistes he mentioned earlier are miles ahead of him based on their contribution to the local music industry.
Vegas also called out dancehall selector Foota Hype for his bias towards Wayne Marshall. According to Vegas, Foota Hype has seemingly agreed with Wayne Marshall being awarded, due to the fact he was a member of the Alliance music group he was once a part of.
