Video footage of a man fleeing a courtroom in Oregon is quickly making its rounds on social media.
The video of the incident was released by the Washington County Sheriff’s Department in Hillsboro, Oregon, USA, (United States of America) and shows a tall male wearing a blue, long-sleeved dress shirt and black pants sprinting out of the courtroom after his restraints were taken off.
According to reports, the laws in Oregon stipulate that when a suspect is presented for a jury selection in court, his or her’s restraints must be removed.
28-year-old Edi Villalobos is facing multiple charges, including murder in the second degree, two counts of burglary in the first degree, unlawful use of a weapon, reckless driving, and reckless endangering. The suspect was escorted to the courtroom for the process to begin and a deputy was seen removing his handcuff and foot restraints.
After he was freed, Villalobos made it seem as if he was going to take a seat by reaching out to pull out a chair, before pushing it out of the way and making his escape. A search was carried out by several officers who made use of drones and search dogs and the suspect was found two hours later in an apartment and returned to the County Jail.
Edi Villalobos’ trial was cancelled and will be rescheduled for another date, which is to be announced.
