National Minimum Wage Set to Increase in June 2024″

Following the drama last Tuesday, the National Budget Debate continued on Thursday in Kingston without any issue, and the highlight of the day was Prime Minister Holness’ declaration of increasing the national minimum wage. Holness announced that the previously set amount of $13,000 will be pushed up to $15,000 weekly, starting June 1, 2024.

The declaration was made as he wrapped up his presentation on the Budget Debate in the House of Representatives.

“It gives me great pleasure to reveal an increase in the minimum wage for a 40-hour workweek,” expressed Holness amidst robust applause from his government colleagues. He highlighted that this adjustment signifies a 15 percent rise.

Concurrently, Holness disclosed an adjustment in wages for industrial security guards, aligning their minimum wage of $14,000 with the national rate of $15,000, effective June 1. This move comes after a previous assurance that the disparity between the national minimum wage and that of industrial security guards would be eliminated following the last wage adjustment.
