Prime Minister Andrew Holness visited the new Jamaica Public Service 190 mega watt Liquid Natural Gas Power Plant in Old Harbor Bay, St Catherine on Tuesday. The construction of the plant will be finished 2 months before the scheduled time, there has not been any cost over runs at the site.

The PM was not in his capacity as leader of the country, he was there as the Minister of Energy. The project will cost $US330 million and it is good that it is being done by Jamaican Banks and Pension Funds.

This power plant will replace the old one in Old Harbor Bay and it will be a lot more efficient. 75% of the workers who are there are Jamaicans and the Government wants the people who live in the community to get certified, as there will be a need for qualified workers to maintain the power plant after it is constructed.

Mr. Holness said Jamaicans can look forward to having reduced electricity bills and ensured energy security. The plant will be commissioned in June 2019 and this is a big move towards the modernization of the JPS fleet.
