Thompson-Herah opened her 2023 athletic season in January with a win in the women’s 60m dash at the Queens/Grace Jackson Meet at the National Stadium in Kingston. The Olympic champion followed her season opener with a second win in the 60m at the Karsten Warholm Invitational in Ulsteinsvik, Norway, in February and a fifth-place finish in the 400m at the John Wolmer (JW) Speed Fest at the National Stadium in March.

Thompson-Herah went on to place second in her 200m opener at the Tom Jones Memorial Invitational meet in April. But Tracey noted the athlete’s absence from several proceeding sprint meets on Thursday. According to Tracey, insider sources shared with him that Thompson-Herah was basically hiding because of her poor performance in training.

Recalling her less-than-stellar season last year after leaving the MVP track club and her new training regime with her husband, Tracey said that her recent performance has been worse. Due to her struggles in training, Tracey said that his sources had revealed the possibility that Thopmson-Herah might not compete for the rest of the season.

Speaking on the differences in the sprinter’s training regime with her husband, Tracey said that according to his source, the new training is unlike the strict training style utilised by MVP coach Stephen Francis, Thompson-Herah was the one calling the shots in training.

“…Franno (Francis) is a hard taskmaster. Now [ … ] a Elaine a di boss enuh [ … ] Franno used to crack the whip and seh, ‘three more lap, four mour lap, five more lap, ten more lap,’ dem seh when Elaine tiad now she just tiad and stop. Nuh argument nuh in a it,” Tracey stated.
