OUR Orders JPS to Reverse Fuel Charges on September Bills

The Office of Utilities Regulations (OUR) has mandated the Jamaica Public Service Company (JPS) to reverse the fuel charges on customers’ September electricity bills, following a spike in August.
Energy Minister Daryl Vaz announced this decision, which came days after his call for fairness on behalf of JPS customers.
OUR Director General Ansord Hewitt stated that JPS must reduce the September fuel charge by the difference in fuel costs between July and June. Additionally, bills showing zero consumption without a corresponding zero value must be reissued.
This directive aims to reverse the substantial increases seen in August bills, with the credit appearing on September bills for simplicity.
JPS earlier informed the public that no disconnections will take place due to unpaid bills until September 15, 2024.
Minister Vaz pledged continued oversight to ensure customers receive justice and await the OUR’s findings on the ongoing investigation into JPS billing practices.
