Over $50M Raised by Jamaican Entertainers in COVID-19 Fight

Over $50 million has been raised to buy personal protective equipment to help in the fight against covid-19. The money was raised through an online telethon during the Easter holidays and several artistes and entertainers participated and contributed.

Multiple currencies were donated which were later exchanged. The Government is now able to procure the needed equipment for the frontline health care workers, the money was raised by Jamaicans and friends of Jamaica, the culture minister reacted and expressed her gratitude.

Minister Olivia Grange gave the update in Parliament on Wednesday, she thanked the kind Jamaicans who responded and she says donations are still coming in, over 50 million in total so far, more than initially predicted and persons were asked to visit the site www.jatogetherwestand.com for details.

143 persons have tested positive for the Covid-19 virus. The Health Minister Dr. Christopher Tufton gave details at the most recent press conference. The Alorica Situation is the dominant challenge on the island in the fight against the virus.

It is very difficult to reach all the persons who are suspected carriers of the covid virus and to contact trace all the people they had come in contact with.
