Passengers of Missing OceanGate Submersible Confirmed Dead

An expedition to view the wreckage of the Titanic set out on Sunday, June 18, 2023, when only around one and a half hours after being submerged, those in communication lost contact with the OceanGate Titan submersible.

There were five passengers aboard the submarine, Hamish Harding, Paul-Henry Nargeolet, Shahzada Dawood, and his son Suleman Dawood, along with Stockton Rush. They have now been confirmed dead.

According to a tweet on Thursday by the U.S. Coast Guard Northeast account, “A debris field was discovered within the search area by an ROV near the Titanic. Experts within the unified command are evaluating the information.”

An official announcement was made on Wednesday stating that debris unrelated to the submersible was found at the site and although rescuers have mentioned hearing underwater noise while searching and that assisted with the vessel being found.

Before the expedition, there was word that an ex-employee at OceanGate had raised concerns about the Titan being unsafe, however, the employee was allegedly fired for doing so. Reports mention that although the submersible was in parts made of high-level technology, some components of the vessel were made up of game remote controllers, simple light fixtures, and other simple parts.

The OceanGate company gave a statement earlier today that said that the passengers aboard the Titan had passed away in what appears to have been an implosion. This was backed by the discovery of five major pieces of debris from the vessel.
